WARRENVILLE INSPIRED

Warrenville Historical Society Museum and Art Gallery
Friday, March 16th-Sunday, April 29nd

My inspiration for the piece "Correspondence", which consists of 68 watercolor  postcards sent by mail, came from my own interest in the idea that people in the past didn't have the communication media we have today. There was no Internet; no Facebook, no Twitter, no Skype, actually for a very long time - not even telephone. So, until relatively recently in the past, the only way people could communicate with their families and friends living far away was by mail. People sent letters or postcards with news. Those who moved to a different country or even a different continent were disconnected with their old roots, and for them letters were their only connection.
Today, things have changed a lot, and we now have the ability to communicate with the rest of the world instantly.
I myself have moved to the United States from Croatia almost ten years ago.  I know how precious it is to me to be able to connect with my family back in Croatia on a daily basis. But I also often think about the times when letters were the only connection with family one had.

The exhibition Warrenville Inspired also features other work from participating artists:
Jessica Bruah, Mia Capodilupo, Patty Carroll, Pate Conaway, Andrew CopperSmith, Adam Farcus, Catherine Forster, Rita Grendze, Chris Hodge, Jason Judd, Alysia Kaplan, Patrick Lichty, Leah Mitchell, Alexis Lee Ortiz-Duarte, Kip Pasta, Dominic Sansone, Joe Urso, Rachel Weaver Rivera, Ana Zanic, Sarah Zimmer, and Allison Yasukawa
These works are displayed in the Warren Tavern, just beside the Warrenville Historical Museum building.
