I AMerican
Group Show
January 16 - February 14, 2015
Opening Reception:
January 16, 7-10pm
This Friday is the opening of I AMerican, a group exhibition that I am participating in. This exhibition, curated by Sergio Gomez, has been traveling last year and visited three venues (Water Street Studios, White Ripple Gallery, Governors State University), before coming to its fourth gallery space now at the Zhou B Art Center.
Since the space at Zhou B. is really huge this time the curator asked us artists if we have some additional pieces that we might want to contribute for this show. So together with my ceramic vessels, this time I am showing also four watercolors, from the series "Origin Cluster", that share a distinct circular shape, mark making and earthy palette with the vessels.
And a little info on this wonderful exhibition and the list of participating artists:
I AM American Exhibition is not a single perspective on immigration or ethnicity. Instead, using a variety of styles, visual forms, symbols and metaphors, each work provides a wide angle view into the multi-cultural experience. Some of the artists are first, second or third generation immigrants. Others, can trace their heritage back to the Native American Indians. In that sense, this non-literal exhibition on the American experience provides the viewer with ample room for conversation and personal interpretation. Some works directly approach the theme of identity while others delve on other subjects related to the American experience. Ultimately, this exhibit explores the meaning of being “American”.
